Ernie Starling, elder at South Main Church of Christ, tackles this question.

“We want to follow the teachings of Jesus so we can please God. That’s who we need to please: God. Not man. God,” Ernie said. “The Old Testament is the school master. It tells us what God expected of the people of Israel and what he liked and disliked. The New Testament is the teaching of Jesus. He expounds on what God wants us to do and how he wants to be worshiped by man.”

“It tells is what we need to do to be pleasing to God, to hear His word, to proclaim, to believe it, to repent our sinful ways, to be baptized, so that we might be saved if we live a faithful life.”
