NEW LEXINGTON, Ohio — On this National Day of Prayer, the Elders of South Main Church of Christ encourage all members, visitors and our neighbors and friends to pray every day and actively practice faith.
You may ask yourself what is acceptable prayer. That question and many surrounding it are answered by the Churches of Christ.
The Bible teaches prayer in times of prosperity and trial in all of life. There are numerous passages which address the topic.
Romans 12:12 in the New King James Version reminds us, “Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.”
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 reminds us, “Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”
Regarding faith, Matthew 21:22 says “If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.”
Galatians 3:9 states “So those who rely on faith are blessed along with Abraham, the man of faith.”
2 Corinthians 1:24 states “Not that we lord it over your faith, but we work with you for your joy, because it is by faith you stand firm.”
John 9:13-34 New King James Version says “They brought him who formerly was blind to the Pharisees. Now it was a Sabbath when Jesus made the clay and opened his eyes. Then the Pharisees also asked him again how he had received his sight.”
John 9:31 New King James Version indicates “We know that God does not listen to sinners. He listens to the godly person who does his will.”
James 5:16 states “Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.”
